Woodwork Handbook is a learning resource built for woodworkers at every stage, from first-timers picking up a chisel to seasoned makers refining advanced joinery. Our goal is simple: make woodworking approachable, safe, and genuinely enjoyable, with clear guidance you can put to use at the bench the same day.
We publish practical, plain-English guides covering the full craft, including tool selection and safety, wood species and material choice, joinery and assembly, finishing and wood care, shop setup, and project plans for every skill level. Every article is written to teach the reasoning behind the technique, not just the steps, so you build real understanding rather than memorizing recipes.
Too much woodworking advice is either gatekept behind jargon or scattered across half-finished forum threads. We started Woodwork Handbook to fix that, gathering reliable, beginner-friendly instruction in one place and presenting it the way a patient mentor would explain it in their own shop. We believe that with the right guidance, anyone can learn to build things they are proud of.
Whether you are setting up your first small-space workshop, choosing between hand tools and power tools, or planning a piece of furniture from scratch, our aim is to give you the confidence and the know-how to do it well and do it safely.
Our readers range widely: complete beginners building their very first project, hobbyists leveling up their skills, parents and teachers introducing woodworking to kids, and experienced woodworkers looking for a refresher or a new technique. Wherever you are on that path, you will find guides written with you in mind.
Lifelong Carpenter & Founder
Woodwork Handbook is run by Mr. Woodsman, a lifelong carpenter and woodworker who has spent decades at the workbench. He grew up around tools, learned the craft the hands-on way, and has built everything from rough framing to fine furniture over the years.
He started Woodwork Handbook to pass on what he has learned, the practical lessons, the hard-won shortcuts, and the safety habits, in a way that beginners can actually follow. His writing favors clear explanations over jargon, and he is a firm believer that good craftsmanship is something anyone can learn with patience and the right guidance.
When he is not writing guides for the site, you will find him in the shop, working wood the way he always has.
